Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend

On Thursday 12th April McTear’s have an exciting auction that is sure to excite many. A range of unique and eye-catching jewellery will be auctioned in our Victorian, Edwardian and Scottish jewellery sale and what a better way to treat yourself after indulging in chocolate over Easter.

From necklaces to brooches, pearls to diamonds and approximately 400 lots of jewellery to be sold, there is an item to appeal to everyone.

This beautiful three stranded pearl necklace with diamond clasp boasts elegance and will add style to any outfit you wear. It is definitely a special item not to be missed. The clasp's central cushion cut diamond is approximately 3.06 carats and is surrounded by diamonds totalling about 0.50 carats. As people say; 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend.'

This unique Serpant Motif necklace is extremely original. The Victorian gold enamelled ruby and pearl set necklace is completely different to the pearl one but the originality of it will be sure to make a statement. Perfect for the summer, the turquoise will brighten up any outfit you wear.

Estimate: £800-£1200

If a necklace isn't your thing, how about this classic fine Edwardian bar brooch with the central square emerald of approximately 1.04 carats, flanked by old brilliant cut diamonds totalling approximately 1.40 carats. A beautiful yet simple addition to your jewellery collection.

May 2012 Decorative Arts and Design auction

On Tuesday the 3rd of May McTear's will be holding a Decorative Arts and Design auction.  It will include many works of arts dating back to the 1960s including ceramics, glass, metalwork, jewellery, furniture and fashion. 
Featured in the auction will be a selection of pieces by the prominent artist Margaret Gilmour who is well known for her distinctive Glasgow Style brass designs. Here is a sneak preview of one of Margaret's pieces that will go on sale at McTear’s dedicated Decorative Arts auction.
Estimate: £1000 - £1500

A Great End to our February Auctions!

On top of our highly successful Rare and Collectable Whisky auction on Wednesday, we've had more great sales in our Silver, Ceramics and Glass, Asian Works of Art and our Furniture and Clocks auction which has rounded up a great February auction list.

This beautiful 19th century Dutch silver tea canister with matching sugar bowl sold for £250 more than its highest estimate, reaching a hammer price of £750.



While this 19th century French gilt brass Kingwood Serpentine Vitrine sold for £1,900, after being given an estimate of between £800 and £1,200.

Another Successful Evening at McTear's

Our Christmas Jewellery, Pictures and Objets d'Art evening on Wednesday 21st December added another successful event to our already long list of achievements this year. Many people took the opportunity to get last minute presents and browse over 500 lots of contemporary and period jewellery, pictures, rare and collectible whisky and objets d'art.

Among the most popular items was this carved Jade pendant which although estimated between £100 - £150, sold for £750.


It was definitely a good night for jewellery as this Edwardian aquamarine and seed pearl set pendant - estimated at £120-£150 - reached a hammer price of £260.

A fantastic evening was had by all and it was the perfect close to our 2011 auctions. We're closing for the Christmas & New Year holidays from 5pm today (Thursday 22nd December) and the auction galleries re-open on Wednesday 4 January.

The first auction of 2012 is Interiors on Friday 13 January.

Hermes at McTear's

Known for their exquisite leather goods - most notably their handbags - Hermes has become a fashion staple in many wardrobes around the world. With a whole host of celebrity fans, it's no wonder that these timeless bags can sell for up to £129,865

Given its history, we think this beautiful C.1930's Hermes "Kelly" black leather hand bag in our Christmas Jewellery, Pictures and Objects d'Art auction is a fabulous find. Estimated between £200 and £300, this vintage bag comes complete with padlock and two keys numbered 021.

Each handbag takes around three months to make and the waiting lists have been known to span years, luckily for you, you only have to wait until our auction on Wednesday 21st December.
